Why eating fish regularly pays off and how to cook fish well
Hi guys,
I am back again with a new post that will certainly
make your cold October day! Are you also a lover of fresh fish and especially
salmon? If so, and you consume fresh fish at least twice a week, ideally three
times a week, you are on the right path towards healthy, happy and long life.
You certainly heard about the positive benefits
of fish consumption, a lot has been said and written on that topic. We all know,
they are loaded with plenty of healthy nutrients and belong to top 10 heathiest
foods.
However, today when I write this article I want
to focus on some specific questions regarding the fish consumption.
Do you actually know how to eat fish? Is it
better to be consumed raw or cooked? What type of fish is best for you? Should
you avoid any of them? These are the questions I will be answering today. So
keep on reading to know more.
When you decide about the fish for your dinner,
the following rule applies: the fatter the better. You may actually start to
worry about your body shape when hearing the word fat, but keep calm that is
not the case. When we speak about fat, we actually mean the fatty acids,
especially 3-omega fatty acids, which are extra healthy and especially fish are
rich in them. They will no way affect you towards putting kilograms and are
great when losing weight or trying to live a healthy lifestyle. 3-omega fatty acids
are essential for growth, our brain development and cell structure. So when new
cells are creating in our body, this special substance is the key thing to make
sure they are complete, healthy and function properly. Eating fish regularly
will also keep your brain well regenerated and prevent you from deterioration
that comes with the age. Your muscles will be strong and flexible, your heart
will be strong and your vision will improve.
Have you ever thought about whether raw fish is
actually healthier than the cooked one? Well, that of course depends on your
own taste, but when it comes to the nutritional content, I have a good news for
you if you fancy cooked fish. There are almost no nutritional level differences
between cooked and raw fish unlike for example vegetable which is known to lose
a lot of nutrients when cooking.
When we say cooking, we actually mean plenty of
ways of food preparation – boiling, steaming, frying. Personally I must say I
love fried fish, especially salmon, but unfortunately this is not one of the heathiest
ways, so when I opt for frying I always use minimum oil. Fish is already rich
in fat, so no need to pour half litre of oil on it. Rather chose to add water
with a tea spoon of oil and you will see how nice the fish will be. Preparing
your fish on steam is a great choice. I do not actually have any special
electronic appliance or gadget that would prepare my food on steam, I have just
used pan, water and pot-lid until now it has been sufficient. One more tip when
preparing fish, at first fry it quickly for 1 minute on both sides, then continue
cooking slowly while adding mild water (around one small coffee cup).
There is fish you should avoid when walking between
the supermarket shelves. Definitely make sure you do not buy canned fish and if
you do so, try to eat as little as possible. Canned food is generally unhealthy
and canned fish even more. It contains mercury and the nutritional levels of
such are also not high. Always better choice than pork though, but rather pay
that extra euro for a fresh fish if you can.
From my personal experience I must say, that
regular consumption of fish helped me to feel less tired, energic, I feel both mentally and physically
more powerful and happier than I did when I did not eat fish. I really feel
that adding fish to my menu brought a lot of benefits to my life. I usually
prepare salmon, tuna or trout. How about you? Do you also love fish and how do
you prepare it?
